Beetle larval galleries under bark

I found some loose bark on a poplar and pulling it back, revealed these multiple chambers made most likely by a beetle, and quite possibly a Buprestid beetle (metallic wood-boring beetles). I find their meanderings create an interesting pattern, and you can see where the fine 'sawdust' from the tunnels is still intact in places.

Must be part of a labyrinth it constructed for fun. "Come and find me."

Looks like an abstract work of art! Fascinating about the beetles, but I'm glad there weren't any visible ;-). V.
