American goldfinch nest

This nest reminded me of a poem by Chang Hua (232-300 AD), called "Yearnings, V", which says in part:

"Birds in their nests know the wind's chill;

Beasts in their caves feel the sunless rain.

But if you have never endured far separation,

How can you know the yearning for an absent friend?"

Lovely pairing of the photo and the poem. Interesting too that the nest appears in the shape of a heart...

The little nest even seems to be in the shape of a heart.

Yes the yearning for an absent friend can be very strong...as is the birds nest here withstanding the winters weather.

Such a sweet, tiny little nest! I'm wondering if this is a titmouse or chickadee nest (because of the moss)? V

Beautiful poem and photo and think of all the love that a bird shows for its young...so much work to build such a perfect nursery.

interesting poem.. a birds nest is love, such a lot of work and care that goes into making one so they have a safe place for babies.. it's the 'nesting instinct' literally :)
