Berberis vulgaris fruit

I played around a bit with this image of berberis fruit, taken at Rockcliffe Park. Berberis vulgaris, is a non-native shrub that is commonly sold in garden centres, but which can 'escape' cultivation and invade natural areas. It doesn't seem to be a problem around Ottawa (yet), but it is definitely a serious problem in some areas. However, the bright red fruit really brightens up winter woods whenever one comes across one of these shrubs.

Such a beautiful lipstick red and the processing makes it look like tiniest granules of ice or snow. Gorgeous image.
