Gall of the Goldenrod Elliptical-Gall Moth (Gnorimoschema gallaesolidaginis), #1986

Unlike the familiar very round, smooth, large galls made by the Goldenrod Gall Fly, these galls are quite different. They are more oval in shape, quite rough in look and feel. These are made by a Tortricid moth. I decided to go looking for some of these a couple of days ago, at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden where there are hundreds upon hundreds of goldenrods and consequently, enormous numbers of goldenrod fly galls. I eventually found two of the Tortricid galls, with not a lot of effort, so they may be more common than I had thought.
