Galls on Rough goldenrod (Solidago rugosa) flowers

These reddish, berry-like swellings in the flowers of the Rough Goldenrod, are galls caused by the gall midge Schizomyia racemicola. According to Bug Guide, the larvae drop out of these galls and pupate in the ground.
