Yellow earth tongue (Microglossum sp.)

This pretty fungi with the odd common name, belongs to the group of sac fungi which also includes the Peziza, the Eyelash fungus, the so-called Jelly babies, etc. A diverse, colourful and fascinating group. This cluster was found near Carleton Place in the summer, and is one of the fungi that grows in summer months.

Quite a unique shape for a fungi. It really looks like tongues :-) Interesting to read that these fungi do grow in summer. It really is a very colorful and fascination piece you found here, Christine. I give 10 points out of 10 for this fungi. :-) V
