Spurge moth caterpillar (Hyles euphorbiae), #7892

Found in the Burnt Lands on Cypress spurge. THe moths were introduced as a bio-control agent for the non-native Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia esula) which is a serious invasive of crop fields. The caterpillars are known to feed on the spurge. However, they also feed on Cypress spurge, another non-native species, and in some cases, leave the leafy spurge in favour of the other.
