Spittlebug

This is one of the larger spittlebugs in our area. I think it is probably an Alder Spittlebug. Spittlebugs make those foamy little clusters on plants. Inside live the nymphs, kept moist and protected until they transform into adults.

This bug has a very aerodynamic shape. Probably a great advantage when flying around and trying to escape. Great picture, Christine.
