Flying creatures from a the outer fringe of our solar system have somehow established a breeding colony in a remote
and unidentified part of New Zealand. They are occasionally seen flying over Auckland and are mistakenly identified
as UFOs. But they are the adult form of creatures whose life cycle resembles that of an insect as we know it on this
planet, but very much bigger, as this photograph attests. They lay eggs in the abandoned tunnels of the fortifications
on this headland, and often the first inkling the locals have of their existence is when the larvae emerge. In this
picture, a council worker wearing protective clothing has disabled the loathsome creature by lacing it with cords.
He will then drag it to a special-purpose laboratory where scientists will determine its sex and deal with it appropriately.
