Everybody wants to see inside the Palace of Versailles. Two important consequences: First, unless you have paid (as
we did) for a special tour, you wait in a queue for an hour or so to get in. Second, even if you have paid, the crowd inside
is as packed as in a crowded bus and you have to move with it, with very little chance of spending any time admiring
more than just the general effect. The general effect is still somewhat amazing, but can be experienced in a somewhat
attenuated but more relaxed way at the chateaux in the Loire Valley – as we found. Just look at our other French galleries.
