Locals watching their tiny creek become a torrent of floodwaters & their bridge across the highway go under.
Their first in 12 yrs has caused much damage to farms who have now lost tons of topsoil

Dorthy McKellars poem "My country" comes to mind.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of rugged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!

Yikes! 12 years without rain, that seems to be unbelievable as we rarely go a week without a good downpour!
