The Potomac meanders its way in front of us in loop, separating West Virginia from Maryland.
The abandoned tracks of the Western Maryland Railroad take a straight path instead of following the contour of the river, crossing over from Maryland in West Virginia on a bridge on the left of the picture and crossing back to Maryland on another bridge on the right of the picture.
The C&O Canal follows the contours of the river in this section, but in the next section shortly upstream, takes a shortcut through the Paw Paw tunnel.
