Here's Looking at You..

West Virginia

This will be my last PAD. I'm going to the PESO challenge. If I were a brilliant photographer like some on here, I could continue with PAD but it's been two years now and I think it's time to stop posting a photo a day when most are mediocre.

I know this is an old photo, but it came up when I went to your profile page ~ SUPERB! I love the details you captured as well as the textures ~ and PISH POSH about mediocrity!! You rock & I hope you feel such on the inside DearHeart ~ GMV, even if it is years late ~

Hi Karen - I'll miss seeing your documentary style shots. You portray life in a very honest and sensitive way.
Looking forward to your PESO.

I'm ashamed to say I discovered you too late. But I've got the treat of going back over two years of your PADs to look forward to!

Your work is so original and topical - photojournalism from the real world. I agree with Danny, basically.

PESO is nice though - no pressure, but still there when you need a fix!
Guest 06-Aug-2006 01:53
Karen, your photos are great, its not the techinical ability or expensive equipment so much as your eye for the subjects and the special things you find. You always show a side rarely seen. And your commentaries and personal stories are excellent, on par with the best. I understand that everyday is difficult and for most impossible but I hope your here as often as possible as I am.
Sheila06-Aug-2006 00:42
Congrats on 2 years too, it's bloody hard work!
Sheila06-Aug-2006 00:39
What Danny Barton said!

Karen, I understand time constraints but your photos and commentary are a bright spot in my day. You have a wonderful eye. I hope you post often.

Nice summer image.

OH SHIT! DON'T GET ME GOIN'! KAREN STUEBING, YOU ARE UNIQUE AMONG THE PBASE PHOTOGRAPHERS. YOUR PHOTO-JOURNALISM IS TOPS IN MY BOOK AND I AM SURE MANY AGREE WITH ME!
IF YOU GO TO PESO, THEN GO FOR A BREAK FROM THE DAILY GRIND AND PRESURE OF PAD. DON'T YOU EVEN GO BECAUSE YOU THINK YOUR WORK IS MEDIOCRE! ...AM I YELLING HERE?...I GUESS I AM.

...BTW, I LOVE THIS. GETS A VOTE. ...STILL YELLIN', HUH?
Guest 01-Aug-2006 01:01
Wow, Karen, great capture! I try to do a PAD, but with life as it is, it's impossible. Don't let it get TOO long between photos! Your work is wonderful.
Jvan Photography31-Jul-2006 21:20

Beautiful capture. Always enjoyed viewing your pics of your home around W. Virginia and
its history. Hope to see more even if it is ESO. Take care, Bryan.

Nice shot! I enjoy your images and your titling and indeed your commentaries. Do what you need to do, but you have done well and I will continue to look for your very enjoyable images! I can't get an image every day and try not to shot something just to shoot something. I knew it would be like this when I started. That's why I call my PAD my PSD (Pictures Some Days)! I further have trouble getting things posted daily, as life usually intervenes. And I think we all hit a spot from time to time where we wonder why we are doing this, but everyone has their own reasons. Do what works as long as you keep doing and sharing with us all. I note you don't take many people shots. Try that maybe? Every day people in everyday life to me are pretty satisfying. I also like your pictures because I love West Virginia and don't get to my old piece of it nearly enough, as I have drifted south. Take care! Bob B.

Beautiful macro Karen. It is impossible for every exposure to be brilliant. As Ansel Adams observed "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop." How can anyone hope for 365? But the truth is your work is never mediocre--and is very often brilliant. I love your photographs and your commentary.
Karen Leaf31-Jul-2006 04:18
Wish I could say it as eloquently as those preceeding me, but it's true. Medicore should never be in your vocab. The PESO idea is a great one, as long as it's every day. And as a wise man said, the pressure is off with a Peso. I look forward to your monring posts, as much and sometimes more than the 1st cup of coffee.
Congrats, it's amazing to look back over the past 2 years thru your 'diary'
See ya tomorrow my friend.

You say, "If I were a brilliant photographer like some on here, I could continue with PAD but it's been two years now and I think it's time to stop posting a photo a day when most are mediocre."
I say, "You can't see the forest because there is a tree in the way. Your postings can never, ever, be classified as mediocre".
s_barbour31-Jul-2006 01:46
This is such a stunning image Karen. I will miss seeing your work everyday, but I certainly won't stop watching for you...keep on clicking!
carol j. phipps31-Jul-2006 01:36
This is excellent, Karen. Keep on keeping on! Don't stop now. Blessings, Carol

remove that "mediocre" remark!! . . . I have been entertained, educated, and enthralled. I expect to watch your talent to grow exponentially just as it has in the last two years. Just THINK . . remember, I suppose . . where you started from!!!
ANd you do better with your pocket-sized camera than many I've seen do with pro cameras. PESO is certainly a good and less exasperating idea. I look forward to seeing your new gallery =)))
Kathy Pedersen31-Jul-2006 00:35
Your work has never been mediocre!!!!! I enjoy your brilliant floral shots and also your commentary shots as well. We have all learned so much of the wonderful state of WV, thanks to you. You will do great with PESO...but please do not stop the PAD!!!
Richard Vance30-Jul-2006 23:02

vive la différence !!!

How could we see the essence of Stuebing if not?? All cogs are important to make the wheel turn.
One must do what one must, but don't ever sell yourself short.
Brilliant photography with meaningful and heartfelt commentary is far from being mediocre.
Coleen Perilloux Landry30-Jul-2006 17:25
There was never anything mediocre about your shots, Karen.
This is a good one; the flower is so sharp and you have made it look huge.
Buz Kiefer30-Jul-2006 17:14
Don't stop your PAD. You page is always very interesting, well thought out and informative.

Karen,
I haven't been visiting your gallery for the entire 2 years - only the last 6 month - but every visit has been a pleasure, and always very instructive. Hope your PESO will be a Very Often one!
