the carnivals in most of Greece are mostly a copy of the Brazilian type, chariots and dancers march on the main street of the city.
in northern Greece (and southern Balkans in general) things are quite different. there have survived pagan rites and rituals that praise the celebration of spring (or the end of winter), the blessing of the new harvest, etc.
