Avanti

The Studebaker Avanti was introduced in 1962 as a 1963 model, and was produced by Studebaker until December 1963 as a 1964 model. Four engines were available, with the most popular ones being the R-1 and the R-2. The R-1 was a 289 CI, 4 barrel V8 making 240 HP, and the R-2 was a 289 CI, Supercharged V8 making 289 HP. This fender badge is from a R-2 model.

In it's two year run, a total of 4643 Avanti's were produced. After Studebaker went out of business, the tooling, dies, rights to the name were sold to investors, who produced the car in very limited quantities, and the rights were subsequently sold several times through the years, and I believe that somewhere, someone still builds the Avanti; it's the car that refuses to die.
