I attended PS 83 from 1957 to 1962. I live right next-door on the corner of Montcalm and Montrose.
Remember playing kickball in the playground and climbing into the coop. How to male teacher in fourth or fifth grade. His name was Mr. foul I think. Loved fire drills and preparing for nuclear attacks.

I attended PS 63 around years 1950-1956. I also went home for lunch. Lived on West Winspear. Would like to locate others who went there.

Attended 1965-1971. I still remember my 1st-5th grade teachers: Peddalon (sp), Winston, Parks, Montana and Steinhardt(sp). The principal was Harold Axlerod. I have a vivid memory of him repositioning us away from the windows during an air raid drill. (Unsafe to be near windows if the Soviets drop a nuke in Western Ny)

I attended k-5 here from 1956-1961. My most exciting memory is that I was a flag monitor!! For several grades. Raise the flag in the morning, lower it in the afternoon. Best of all, if it looked like it was going to rain, I got to leave class, with a friend, to take the flag down. Thank you, BSA training. I remember the separate entrances for boys and girls. And the names of my teachers (if spelled improperly): Mrs.s Zupkauph, Peddleon, Holmland, Parks, Tiffany, and Miller. Most important of all, I learned to duck and cover.

Is there anyone else out there who attended PS 83 in the late 40's and early 50's? I was there from K-4 -- 1947 thru 1953, I guess. Since there was only one class per grade, if you were there at the same time we must have known each other. And the teachers -- Miss Candy and Miss/Mrs. Zemp. Ms. Zemp was somehow involved with the Girl Scouts so we always wore our uniforms to school on meeting days.
So many memories. Do you remember how we actually had to line up outside separate doors so the boys went in one door and the girls went in the other? I walked home for lunch and I guess everyone else did also.

This building was bought by art dealer David K. Anderson in the early 90s and converted to a private art gallery. In 2000, he donated the building and a substantial portion of his personal art collection to the UB Art Gallery. The building is now called the UB Anderson Gallery and holds free, public art exhibitions throughout the year.

Thanks for the memories my sister and I went here from 1971 to74, then we went to #62 then Bennett high school.
