I went to School 60 from 70-74 and my 2nd grade teacher upon entering the school was Ms. Colby. My previous school was about a 2 minute walk from my house but upon moving, the walk increased to 10-15 minutes. I remember how long .4 mi was as a little girl with short legs and snow piled as tall as my height during the winters. Ms. Woods, the only black teacher in the school was my 4th grade teacher. I remembered feeling glad to have her as my teacher as my sister and I were the only 2 black children at the school until the desegration of neighborhood schools began and children from the East Side of Buffalo entered the school in my 5th grade class.

Hello all School 60 classmates. I graduated from School 60 in 1960 as Vice-President of my graduating class. I am desperately searching for our 1960 8th grade graduating class photo. I believe it was a colored photo taken on the stairs in front of Riverside High School. I will be attending my 50th Riverside high school reunion this August and several of my classmates will be there. It would be awesome to share the photo with everyone. I can be contacted via email at judycohns@roadrunner.com. Thank you, Judy (Olewine) Simpson

I lived in Riverside from 1966-1978. Went to this school 66-71. Across the street was a hobby shop and pizzeria. There was another pizza shop called Tower. There was a Mr. Donut next door to the Presbyterian church. There was a Super Duper down the street. The business district had a Bkwik supermarket, Marine Midland and M&T Bank, (worked there in 78). Also, there was a Kobackers, WT Grant five and dime, Rexall and Fay's drug stores. Riverside Men's shop and Snitzer Bros. hardware store and a couple of aquarium stores and Riverside library. I remember 4th of July in Riverside Park and the amusement rides. I am telling all of this as I visited a few years back and could not believe how most of this is gone! What a shame. Such a nice school, businesses, and neighborhood. Great memories! What a shame. If you care to share memories...benderfox@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Well the school is being made into apartments. And I am sure the new owners would love some of the original documents to display once opened. It is a beautiful building.

Anyone attend during 1966-1970? (teachers and/or students). Teachers were Ms. Alt, Mrs. Woods, Dr. Mart, Ms. Boblak, and Ms. Otis, respectively. Please feel free to email me: Alan Scibetta, benderfox@yahoo.com. Thank you.

I was a student at school 60 in the 19+50's . In 1957 I was in the second grade . I do not remember the teachers name but I remember that I liked her . She taught our class the song Red red Robin and we were going to sing it at an assembly program . We all thought we sounded great . However the music teacher could not find the music for the piano so we did not get to sing the song. i remember being so disappointed . Does anyone else remember any of this . Dan Caster

My father, herb, uncle Len, brother herb, sister Judy, brother Len, and myself, joe, all graduated from p.s.60. I was the class president of 1959, the 60th graduating class of school 60! My dad owned the riverside review. Very fond memories of the riverside gang.

I remember the principal. Her name was Miss Hokey. We used to call her Miss Hokey Pokey. Me and my brothers and sisters went to this school durring that same time frame 1966-1971. Such an amazing iron work on the railings as i can remember. I also remember when the Girls went in on one side of the building and the boys went in on the other side of the building. I was just there a few weeks ago and it is all boarded up. Are they going to restore this building or are they going to tear it down? My email is ray.merkel@hotmail.com This was one great school.

Hello. Anyone care to share memories? I attended 1966-1970, 2nd to 6th grades. benderfox@yahoo.com. I lived on Gallatin Ave. Right down the street. Could never say I missed the school bus in order to get out of school. Teachers were Miss Alt (mean), Mrs. Woods (only black teacher, very nice), Dr. Mart (referred to by classmates as "the old fart", very nasty), Ms. Boblak, and Ms. Otis, (always had to sing patriotic songs b4 and after class.)

I am sad to see that this school is no longer used. I went there 1966-1970. Teachers were Miss Alt, Mrs. Woods, Dr. Mart, Miss Boblak, and Miss Otis respectively. Miss Otis had a piano in her class. We always had to sing patriotic songs b4 and after class. Miss Boblak and Mrs. Woods were also great! Miss Alt and Dr. Mart were very mean to us. Anyone else care to share memories? benderfox@yahoo.com

It saddens me to see it boarded up. I went there from K to 6th in the 60's and 70's.

I was in the last 8th grad graduating class in 1969. The next year the Hertel Middle School opened.
