I graduated in 1960 and was in class as we watched the church burn. In 1959 the eighth classes only were moved to the lyceum because of lack of space. Is there a school now? Where?

If you think the outside is beautiful, the inside is just as spectacular! I am an '89 graduate of the grammar school. We lived on Goodyear until 1991 and remained with the church until 2007.

Looking at the picture makes me sad to know the neighborhood that surrounds it now. I pray that history might repeat itself and the neighborhood might completely die out and then become chic again.

Mr. Josker, your pictures are truly inspirational. They remind me of how much I love Buffalo. They also provide a phenomenal reference for my students at Burgard High School. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us!

The original school building was torn down in 1968 and the site is the parking lot. The Lyceum building was the used as the school (I graduated in 1979) but sometime in the late 80s or early 90s it closed and is now an annex of Public School 44. The nuns relocated and the former convent is used for other purposes.

I graduated from SJK in'58. I remember the fire. The building you see is original. Only the interior was destroyed. I visited the neighborhood about 25 yrs ago, I noticed that the school (located to the right of the church) was torn down. The school building was as large as the church. I wonder why it was removed? Now in Pleasanton, CA.

In my youth 1950 or so my neighbor was the organist at St John Kanty... the original... my sister took piano lessons from him... The church burnt and the story I remember from my youth is that he was led into the burnt church by the fireman to see his organ and he touched it and his fingers passed thru wood charred to just ash.. I assume this is the replacement church... Haven't lived there since '65 Now in Oakland Ca
