My Dad said that 1947 when the Comet was erected that he was the 1st one to test ride the Comet after the sandbag test went ok.

Wow. Seeing this picture drives me nuts. I live near Lake George and have been on the Comet out there, but I was too young to ride it when it was in Canada. I still remember seeing it at night with the lake right there.

Comet
The Great Escape, Lake George, NY

The Comet is a classic wooden roller coaster that was preserved after standing, but not operating at Crystal Beach Park in Ontario for five years. Fortunately, this 1947 woodie from Herb Schmeck was saved and re-erected at The Great Escape Fun Park in New York where it operates today.
