When looking out on the great expanse of Lake Erie from Buffalo, the farthest point of land that you can see on the Canadian side is Pt. Abino. Note the Buffalo skyline in the distance.

The lighthouse was built in response to the loss of Lightship 82 and all hands in the "Great Storm of 1913." The light was automated in 1989, and finally extinguished in 1996.
