Americana

The Americana was the former Block Island Ferry that was brought to Buffalo in the late 80's, and was put on the old Canadiana run from downtown Buffalo to Crystal Beach. It lasted until Crystal Beach closed at the end of Labor Day weekend, 1989. I don't recall what happened to it, but it left Buffalo.

The ferry in Manhattan is the MV Yankee. She also sailed to Block Island, first from New London and later from Providence and Newport. Both ferries ran to the island at the same time. The Yankee has been purchased by a private owner and been remodeled as a private home. Check out youtube for an HGTV special on her.

There is a ship like this docked on the Hudson River in Manhattan which was also a Block Island Ferry at one time. Are they the same or related?

Great pictures.I use to work on this ferry when it was the Block Island in the 1970's.
I never saw her again after 1984 so i was suprised to find the pictures.I'm planning
to build a nice size replica model of her to save a piece of history for others to
enjoy,so if anyone has anymore pictures, interior or exterior so i can see different
angles, because i can't quite remember the exact scimatics of the inside, it would help
me greatly.Thanks again karl for the wonderful pictures,it was cool to see her again post
1984.

She was seen in St Lucia as the Lucian Queen in the mid 1990's owned by Mid-Caribbean Associates, Inc. No word since. justin7@optonline.net

The Americana was actually bought by a company and taken to Florida. Last I heard she was scrapped sometime ago
