The Arrow

The Arrow was an oil tanker that struck Cerberus Rock in Chedabucto Bay (Nova Scotia) on February 4, 1970. This was Canada's first major oil spill; about 8,000 tonnes of bunker c oil was lost. The vessel broke in two 4 days later. The bow still lies in the immediate vicinity of Cerberus Rock. An attempt to salvage the stern was unsuccessful, it sank about a-quarter-of-a mile away. The oil that remained in the stern was removed by navy divers.
