aestethic resting
5.9.2010 Norwegians have an eye for visually attractive resting. This is a wooden rest area by a motorway in northern Norway. |
08-AUG-2010
lost
5.9.2010 I find these old farm buildings somewhat interesting (posted another one here some time ago). Maybe it is due to the story that they tell about the times now lost. |

Professional
30.4.2010 A man sewing a sleeping bag in a family owned trekking outfit factory in Nepal. Employers get paid by the amount of items made and they can choose how many hours they spend at work every day. In average they work 10 hours per day and earn monthly a sum which equals to the wage of wellpaid government offical. |

Indian girl
29.4.2010 I took this about on year ago in Varanasi, India. I was on my way to Nepal and just quickly passed through Northern India. The girl was spending the evening with his father. |

Free to choose
3.4.2010 One of joys of skiing on early spring lakes is the fact that you can ski pretty much anywhere you wish. |
02-APR-2010
ice fishing
2.4.2010 We are living the last moments to enjoy ice covered lakes. The ice was already pretty soft today from the surface, but you could still luckily find some centimetres of harder ice below that to support you. I met this ice fisher on my little skiing trip on the lake. |
23-FEB-2010
glass lotus
1.3.2010 Isn't it a little frustating everytime you brake a drinking glass? A thing that a moment ago was a very useful object, becomes in a split second completely useless because of your clumsiness. This time I thought why not let the thing serve one last time - for visual purposes. |
10-AUG-2009
evening by the lake
20.8.2009 Saimaa is the largest lake in Finland. We borrowed a boat and spent couple of days cruising from one island to another and enjoyed long summer days and cool waters. |

18.8.2009 Cozy house for sale in a good area. Rooms are spacious, roof is high and light enters the building freely. |

royal berry
10.7.2009 In Finland cloudberries have almost a royal status. The magical reputation might be partly due to the fact that they grow on remote swamps and each plant bears only one berry which means picking cloudberries is very slow and mostly painful. But it is the elegant taste that makes all the suffering worthwhile.

at the office
9.7.2009 I spent last 2,5 months in Nepal. This image will start my photo story from Nepal. It was taken in an office of a local airliner on a small airport in Western Nepal.

4.4.2009 A child played by the table, got bored and walked away. What was left was a red tower of lego blocks.

resurrection
29.3.2009 It's been a while since I last posted an image. Studying all day is an efficient way to kill your creativity. Now its over, so it is time to shoot some pictures again! This image is dedicated to a friend of mine, who kindly suspected there must something wrong with my new camera because I haven't posted any pictures on pbase since buying the camera two months ago.

waiting
9.1.2008 I got off the train in the middle of nowhere in southern Finland. Sun was setting below the horizon. The train stood by the station couple of minutes waiting for another train to pass. It was the pleasing mixture of light and pastel colours that caught my eye.

barn
25.12.2008 Finland is a promised land of old, abandoned and leaning barns. You can find them all over Finland telling story of how things used to be. I find them quite sympathic in their simplicity.

23-DEC-2008
living on the edge
25.12.2008 Roads are covered in ice again. Each year when the first snow comes, there are several accidents on the roads - as if it was the first time in history that we get snow. I guess it requires loads of "nothing-will-ever-happen-to-me-because-I-am-immortal" -type of self confidence to be able to drive 80-100 km/h on slippery roads year after year. A handful of luck isn't bad either.

blue tunnel
11.10.2008 I've always enjoyed traveling by train. You are not forced to sit tightly on your seat; you can have a walk (and a pretty long one too) if you don't feel like sitting anymore. And trains go quite smoothly too - eventhough I needed to wait until the train stopped to take this picture to avoid blur.. |
the Roman walk
11.10.2008 One of the things I appreciate in many European cities is that they haven't been designed solely for cars. Eventhough Rome is a huge city, you can rather easily see majority of the city by foot - if you just remember to pay little attention to all those unpredictable little Fiats out there that are driven by boiling Italian temper. |
memories
11.10.2008 Grandgrand parents of a friend of mine once lived in this house. The house had been left unoccupied after their death. Today - several years later - sheets are still in the bed and drawers are full of clothes that once belonged to them. These two chairs stood there waiting to get cleaned and be useful again. |

H2O
22.9.2008 Yesterday, after I had finished eating the dinner I had just cooked, I noticed that boiling water had accumulated on the glass cover of the pan. Drops were side by side on the glass surface. I had two options: let it be and go to bed (it was getting late already), or set up a little home studio and shoot some pictures. Well, the choice was easy. |
living in a mosaic
22.9.2008 While a friend of mine was preparing a delicious Italian dinner, I wandered around in his apartment and ended up looking out of the window facing to the interior yard. The day had already turned into night so neighbours had switched their lights on. Lit rooms formed an interesting mosaic of light; some lights had warm colour while others were cooler, few were slightly green and some a bit reddish. I think I spotted a blue one too. |
summer evening
1.9.2008 Summer is turning winter again. One thing that I will truly miss during the long, dark and cold winter days is a luminous summer evening accompanied by sauna and a swim in a refreshing lake. |
demand
13.7.2008 This charming little boy has a particular gift of being natural in front of a camera. In addition, I feel he has a message to all adults out there. Can you hear it? |
20-JUN-2008
small wonders
25.6.2008 This was taken in a 19th century building that used to be a brewery. Nowadays it is a home of five different families. The building has one typical feature of that time; it was made to last - contrary to the notion of today's world. We had a walk inside the thick walls of the old brewery and finally ended up on the attic. The light pouring in through the windows took my attention and when my friend suddenly saw something interesting and crouched down the floor, the photo was born. |
15-JUN-2008
delicate
24.6.2008 Don't you think the child has chosen exactly the right amount of muscle power and effort to handle the tough flower? Delicate touch of a lion. |
16-JUN-2008
complicated
24.6.2008 This was taken at local outdoor swimming pool. For me this image is all about interaction of different shapes and textures. Althought I usually tend to prefer minimalistic images, I find this photo rather balanced; it has some particular tranquility and harmony - eventhough there are several (almost too many) elements in the photo. |
29-MAY-2008
meltdown
1.6.2008 I was walking around, when I suddenly saw a bridge that was about to melt in the evening sun. Didn't know what to do, so I took a picture. |
18-MAY-2008
winter again
19.5.2008 Is there anything better than snow in the middle of May? Right after you've enjoyed the green grass and sunshine and thought that the summer is finally here. I've heard a true story about ancient Finns; Long time ago, when there were no people living in Europe, a bunch of people wandered to its borders and saw two road signs. One sign was pointing to the south and it said "Warmth, sunshine and happiness for 8 months a year". The other one pointed towards the north and it was written on it "Dark, cold and miserable for 9 months a year".
Those who couldn't read came here. |
17-MAY-2008
lady in orange
17.5.2008 "Market of Possibilities" is an event where non-governmental organizations present their activities and distribute information. The purpose is also to bring out the Finnish multiculturality. The colorful lady at the picture prepared delicious Sudanese bread filled with vegetables. |
11-MAY-2008
linear
11.5.2008 I've walked through this staircase over and over again for years and never really thought there is something worth of taking a picture in it. But then on one lazy day - when there was no hurry anywhere - I suddenly stopped on the first step and saw the lines. |
decay
6.5.2008
A row of decaying wood standing in water. It seemed like they had been there forever. I find it interesting how photography can make the most boring and ordinary objects visually pleasing. Or maybe they are like that already by nature - we just refuse to see it.
