Ma Jin, alias Zhanru and Boyi, was a native of Beijing. He was fond of painting since his childhood
because his father tended horses for the Manchu nobility. Ma Jin studied with renowned painter
Jin Cheng when he was young, became famous for painting horses in the early 20th century.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he was engaged as a painter at the Beijing
Art Academy.
