Kiritimati is the world’s largest coral atoll, having a total area of 642 square kilometers,
of which 323 square kilometers is land, the remainder (319 sq. klms) being lagoon.
It lies 232 kilometres north of the equator, and straddles the international date line,
4000 kilometres from Sydney and 5360 kilometres from san Francisco.
