arrived at Ft Wolters in Nov 1969. Program was over enlisted and many of us just polished boots and brass for months waiting for an opening in a class. Every day they asked for volunteers to drop out of the program. I thought I could get fixed wing due to prior flying experience, but didn't stand a chance. Got three days of Christmas leave in '69 and went and got married! Dropped out of the program a few months later and was offered combat medic, forward observer, and/or small arms technicians as new "career". Got lucky and went to Ft Monmouth to learn crypto repair. Ended up at an udergound Pentagon facility in PA/Md near Thermont, MD and finished my 2 year obligation. A very lucky guy! Still wish I had completed the program and had some great stories to tell. However, Army got me into computers which became my career for 25 years. Still fly, but only fixed wing. Still married after 42 years. A couple of miracles!
