This female's underside shows one of her spinnerettes. She uses a different one for the wide zigzag pattern in her web. She was waiting for a visit by a much smaller male to fertilize the eggs she would produce before she dies. In the spring, the babies hatch and are on their own.

funny to see that you have the same spiders as us. I got a photo a short while ago of a female with her tiny husband in the frame. yours has great colour

Really excellent job on these spiders. I have tracking a related species Argiope argentata. If you have a chance, look at egg case? which I found within a cluster of six webs. Do you think they are egg cases?
