Alamo by Night

The lighting at night allows the texture of the limestone facade to be more visible. The 1836 battle began before sunrise and was over in 90 minutes.

We visited the Alamo when they were celebrating the anniversary. My son was selected to fire a (live but shot less)cannon down the street. It made his day. I was surprised at the small size.

I like the night images, Karen. When we visited, we were always back at the Marriott or on the Riverwalk by nightfall.

Like Bob, I was stationed in San Antonio. You did a fantastic job of isolating the Alamo, which is unfortunately surrounded by buildings and people. Beautiful photos! Thank you for sharing them. I'm voting.

I was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston so I visited the Alamo a number of times, but
the treatment you have given it here is special. Nice to see it isolated like this
without the busy street, very authentic. Voted for this one.

During the day the Alamo looks like another tourist attraction. At night it has a totally different mood and you did a great job of capturing it.

The Alamo was built by the Spanish to spread Christianity to the Indian population. As a Spanish mission, it was the sight of a battle with Mexican forces under Gen. Santa Ana. Those who sought freedom from Mexico's rule were killed during and after the battle. It has become a symbol of freedom from tyranny.

Could you elaborate on what this exactly is? I know the word "alamo" is used for a last retreating point, and I can imagine it originated from this, but what is it?

The night I took these a group of about 15 ghost hunters where trying to make contact with reported ghosts. I didn't get anything in my pics except the texture of the limestone facade. There are marks from bullets still visible from the 1836 battle.
