An old house... or an old farmyard, a group of buildings in Ikaalinen. It's owned by town nowadays and empty, and many of the old buildings have already been torn down. I like the place a lot, it somehow gives a feeling of being outside the time.
What an interesting comment, thank you! Kalmaa was probably a lovely place to spend childhood summers, and the surroundings must have been rather different by then. I did read a little bit about the history of Kalmaa, also about your grand aunts who lived there rather self-sufficiently until... was it even 80's... The story appealed to me, so it's kind of fascinating to hear from someone who's really been there by then... As for the "uusi pytinki", i see i underestimated its age a couple of decades, thanks for the correction. It was also interesting to hear it was meant to be an imitation of Metsäkylän kartano.

I used to spend my childhood summers in Kalmaa in the 50's and 60's when my old great aunts still lived there with all the cattle; cows, sheep, chicken, turkey and a horse named Ilo. They also had a big white hairy dog and numerous cats. That new villa "uusi pytinki" is not very new either, it is at least 130 years old. Carl Otto Helsingius, my grandmother's grandfather had it built as an imitation of his childhood manor house in Metsäkylä, Hattula (Metsäkylän kartano). It used to be a typical empire style building. This "new pytinki" though, is a torso, as it was supposed two have two wings, on either side (the existing part is only the middle part of the supposed manor), but due to shortage of funds, it was never completed. The main building, the red one, is much older. The "tupa" part of it may date back from the 17th century.
