Blue-gray Tanager

El Rocio, Mindo

On the western slope of the Andes this species looks like this individual, almost all blue. The ones we found on the eastern slope had white on the wing coverts which had us looking twice to be sure of the identification. Being able to get out into enough different locations on both slopes and in varying habitats throughout Ecuador made our trip much more interesting from a naturalist's perspective.

Wow this guy is almost entirely blue. The ones we have here in Colombia are quite two-toned (distinct grayish-white head and blue wings and tail). Great shot!
