Gemmed Satyr

Cyllopsis gemma

This is the second of our two species of satrys from Santa Ana NWR. Aptly-named, this gemmed satyr appears to have tiny diamonds on the hindwings which flash brilliantly in the dappled sunlight of the forest floor. Despite the shiny spots on the hindwing, they also can blend in well with the dried leaf-litter as shown here.
