I do too. This is such a thought-provoking image, Jim. Wonderfully done.

I am sure his mental vexation was beyond words, no one would cannot be the master of one's own fate. V

Great shot except for that fence Jim. Looks like it is sad and wants to get out.

Seems a little sad. Great capture of that expression though.V

I worry for their happiness, but realize some are being rescued from extinction.
I hear you on the mixed bag, Jim. Your wonderful image of this wistful primate says a lot.

Depends on the zoo I guess ... some are torture for those poor animals, but others are safe, well cared for and have all the best vets and food. If I were an elephant or a gorilla ... maybe I'd prefer to be at the San Diego Zoo than in the African savanah ... where every bush hides a poacher!

I fully agree with you, Jim. Zoos have always deeply depressed me. But the quality of your photography is always remarkable, even though I prefer when you offer us other subjects

'don't fence me in' is one possible reading here...there is a zoo near Vancouver, but I never go there...imprisoning animals seems so cruel and unjust..

I agree. A nice capture of mood here, even if we can't know for sure what this individual is feeling.

Yes, there is a sadness here of captivity
Tom LeRoy22-Mar-2013 13:40
I'm sure he would rather be in his natural habitat. A fine shot, Jim. V

I share your feelings, Jim. On the one hand, if they can help preserve a species in as natural a habitat as they can create, that is one thing, but on the whole, I find zoos terribly depressing and sad. However, you have caught a feeling here with your shot.

You sort of wish that this beautiful creature would be allowed to live unfetterd by man
