'4' Eric

A little background is probably necessary to explain this image. Those of you who have ever looked at any of my racing galleries might know that my family is involved in the sport of drag racing. My husband drives the car, his father tunes it, my sons and I are part of the team, as well as many dear friends. I'm certain some of you think this crazy at the very least and probably wonder how I could ever wrap my head around watching my beloved drive a car down a 1/4 mile track at speeds of 220 mph+. I wouldn't even begin to try to change your mind. Leave it at this: I've always thought you should follow your dreams whenever possible - this has been a dream of my husband's for awhile and he is realizing it.
Racer's are like family, much like some of the photographers here at pbase. We share common interests and a strong bond. Today a young professional drag racer, Eric Medlen, succombed to injuries sustained in a crash while testing last Monday. I can't begin to imagine the pain his family and friends are feeling. (His father was also crew chief and tuned Eric's car.) The sport has inherent dangers, and drivers and teams are well aware of them. I'm certain Eric wouldn't have wanted to be doing anything else - but that does little now to alleviate the tremendous sense of loss.
May his soul rest in peace.

The way that ray streaks towards the cross is very spiritual Jenene. The sense of loss must be so great. K

Your sad commentary personalizes this image. Without it, it is a symbolic comment on a specific religious belief.
