2408 Astapovich

2408 Astapovich (1978 QK1) main belt asteroid transiting the spiral galaxy NGC 2775. Its size is about
21km in diameter and at the time of this image sequence it was about 1.9 AU from earth (JPL Small-Body
Database). This image sequence was taken March 1, 2011 from 3:51 to 7:00 UT. The background
galaxy, NGC 2775, was imaged over several nights. The complete image and details for NGC 2775 are here:

All image captures were with CCD Lab’s Q285M and a Celestron EdgeHD 9.25 at f10 on a Losmandy
G11/Gemini mount. The individual frames containing the asteroid were 8 minutes each. North is up.
