My state's official tree and a story to think about on Easter Sunday. Nearly eighty years ago state officials were considering naming this tree as the official state tree. Citizens came to them demanding this not be done as they believed this was the "Judas Tree", being the one that Judas hanged himself from after betraying Jesus. A man living in Oklahoma City who had earlier lived in Jerusalem was consulted and confirmed that the tree from that region was another variety. Thus clearing the way for the Redbud to become the official tree of Oklahoma. On a personal note. Whenever the landscape here erupts in color every late March i always think of my father whose home was surrounded by more than a dozen of these beauties.
Easter greetings to you all. May peace abound.
