The labyrinthine old town is a delight with so much to see and stunning views to take in. In fact, it’s a photographer’s paradise! Most of the buildings date from after the Reconquest but the flavour and layout of the town has remained Moorish.
Arcos is definitely a town to explore on foot. Many of the steep narrow cobbled streets are linked by narrow ornate arches lit by traditional iron lamps. They are packed with history from austere convents and plateresque facades to elaborate baroque and Gothic churches. Elegant, historical palaces with their coat of arms and heavily studded wooden doors stand alongside simple shuttered whitewashed houses.
