Baeza was a vast, rich and flourishing city in the middle ages. It was occupied by the forces of the Ferdinand III when the city lost its population and charm for a while. However an increase in commercial, industrial and agricultural activity in the 15th/16th century meant Baeza blossomed and regained its originality back. The city got back its pride, the people hired architects like Andres de Vandelvira to design the churches, palaces and public places. The Old Italian touch was added to this and transformed the city into one of the finest examples of Italian architecture.
