The Catholic Kings granted their personal secretary, “D. Hernando de Zafra” the nobility of Castril. His family also inherited this title. One of his grandchildren constructed in 1539 this magnificent palace-house in the Albayzin district. Stands out the marvellous plateresque front façade, built with sandstone. This house has a central balcony with medallions in relief and a frieze with a figure of an angel and griffins (decorative motifs representing a fabulous animal with the head, wings and claws of an eagle and the rest of the body is of a lion). The building is constructed around a central courtyard with a quadrangular shape, formed by porticoes with semicircular arches supported by marble columns
