Segovia. Convento de San Antonio el Real

The San Antonio El Real Convent is an architectural complex of great historic and artistic importance. Its beauty is due to the fact that the rooms are carefully looked after to ensure their conservation.
In 1931 the monastery was declared a world heritage site, however, only until recently could it be visited due to the fact that it was a closed order monastery.
The San Antonio El Real Convent in Segovia features on its ceiling unique mudéjar architecture dating back to the 15th century.
King Enrique 5th of Castile, since becoming prince owned a palace for leisure purposes in, at that time, the outskirts of the city of Segovia. He later decided to establish a Franciscan monastery backed by San Antonio and his sister Isabel the 1st the Catholic Queen who would later convert it to a convent under the reforms to religious orders during her reign.
