The 64th Anniversary.
This memorial plate honors two members of the Home Army assassination action against the Gestapo chief in Warsaw Franz Kutschera, that took place on Febr. 1st, 1944.
Zbigniw Gesicki alias "Juno" (24y.o.) and Kazimierz Sott alias "Sokol" (20y.o.) were the young soldiers from the scouting battalion "Parasol" (Umbrella) - a part of Kedyw (special Home Army departmet for liquidation of nazi officials).
While escaping after the action, surrounded by Germans on the bridge - jumped from it to the Wisla river and died.
The courageous action taken in February 1944 by the Home Army was a part of a greater effort to lift the terrible shadow which had fallen over Europe.
Here in Warsaw, the Gestapo chief Franz Kutschera, SS General and Police Leader of Nazi-occupied Warsaw, was executing almost 100 Poles per day.
He was sentenced to death in November 1943 by Polish undergrounds court in return for mass executions. Shot in this action.
