St Nicolas, The Turkish bisshop of Myra (which is now the city of Demre in Turkey)
had an important influense on the council of Nicaea (Izmik) where they tried to make unity in Churches, long before islam, but then there was already a gap between byzantian church (which became orthodox) (byzanthium = constantinopel = istanbul) and Roman church.
My yellow conclusion is : Turkey is a part of Europe. ;-)
