Jewish Cemetery

Warsaw, Poland

This is a symbolic tomb and monument to Dr. Janusz Korczak - his real name was Hirsz Goldszmit, he was a paediatrician and well-known author, then a teacher in orphenage.
In the tragic moments in the Warsaw Ghetto, in 1942, he did not leave the group of children being boarded to the wagons going to death camp in Treblinka.
Having been offered freedom by the Nazis, he decided to stay with his small charges and died with them.
