The most recent part of the Hofburg is the Neue Burg, an imposing south-east wing built between 1881 and 1913 after designs by Gottfried Semper.
Neue Burg was never actually used as a palace. Today it houses the main reading room of the national library and it is home to no less than four museums.
There is an equestrian statue of Prince Eugene of Savoy (inaugurated in 1865) on the Heldenplatz (Heroes' Square) in front of the Neue Burg.
