I happened on it. A French film crew was making a commercial in the Village and stuck up flyers asking for "New York Freaks" to come by and add a little local color to an ad for chewing gum or something. When the day came, hundreds of locals came out in their finery to see if they could get in on it. The line went around the block. The response was far better than expected. I'm not sure they even got round to getting the commercial made.
