Wiang Kum Kam was the capital of northern Thailand in 1287-1290; however, frequent
flooding caused King Mangrai to move the capital to the area which is now Chiang Mai.
Built on the site of the ancient Wat Kan Thom, this temple is at the heart of Wiang Kum Kam.
