White Lady waterfall Lydford Gorge

The spectacular White Lady Wafterfall tumbles its cool fresh water 90ft down
into the ravine of Lydford Gorge near Okehampton in West Devon (UK).
Melt-water surges from the snows of Dartmoor during the last ice age combined with acid from the peat on the moor,
are thought to have been responsible for the stream cutting so deeply into the local slate
and other soft rocks to create features like the "Devil's Cauldron" and other whirlpools in the gorge.
You need to be reasonably fit to enjoy Lydford gorge as the paths involve series of steep steps
as they descend in and out of the valley to get to the interesting features.
It can be slippery too but there are hand rails and safe fencing along the most dangerous stretches of the paths;
so it's not an ideal place for unruly young children, nevertheless the potential consequences of
slipping will get everyone involved in respecting nature and enjoying their hike. Great exercise and you'll all look forward to a meal afterwards!
National Trust managed, on a fine day this beauty spot is well worth the entrance fee - £4.70 Adults, £2.60 Children (check for latest prices.)
Open from 10am and until 5pm in the summer season (entrance closes 1 hour before to give people time.)
Some new paths at the waterfall end of the gorge were opened 2007.
