We flew to Cusco and then headed to the Sacred Valley on our way to Machu Pichu. This is really the heart of the Incan empire in southern Peru. There are lots of ruins to visit and during this time I started to get a real appreciation for the building skills of the Incas. As you travel along, you will see terraces and buildings in the hills. Our major stop was at Ollantaytambo, an Incan ruin that was in pretty good shape. Our tour guide showed us how the stones were cut and erected. Parts of the structure were unfinished and stones in the process of being shaped were just sitting where the Incas left them. We also had the opportunity to visit a native home to see how these guys live.
