Day Nine

A big day for us. The weather was beautiful and we visited and toured the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul. That is number 49 for us. Only one left is Hawaii. Our tour guide was very good. He had a sense of humor and delivered a very good discussion. The building had been recently renovated. We were here a couple years ago, but the repairs were underway and we couldn't tour the building. The building was completed in 1905. Cass Gilbert was the architect and he also served as interior designer. The dome is the second largest unsupported marble dome in the world. The first is St. Peter's in Rome. The renovation cost the people of Minnesota $310 million. That's a lot of dough. Like so many other capitol buildings, it takes a lot of money just to put it back the way it was.

We met up with my sister Jean's family for lunch at the Red Cow. It was good food. Oh yes, there was good beer as well. Then we headed to Jean's house for a relaxing afternoon and evening playing cards and enjoying some very good finger food that Jean prepared.

Today's photo is of the two of us in front of the Minnesota State Capitol. The weather gods were with us, just wished that there were some nice clouds. So it goes.
