Today was another learning session with my iPhone. We went to lunch at a nice Persian restaurant in the Avalon shopping center. As we were shooting the breeze after lunch I decided to have a go with the flash the iPhone 7 Plus has built in. It is not very powerful, but it just might make a difference. The subject was backlit. The top photo is what you get with just taking a shot. As you can see, the backlighting is screwing up the works. The second shot is with the flash on. It is much better. One limitation is that you have to be pretty close to your subject for that little light to have any effect. A second is that the time from pressing the shutter to taking the shot is almost two seconds. A lot can happen in two seconds, especially with kids. When you are not using the flash the delay between pressing the shutter and taking the picture is almost instantaneous.
So, once again a little experimentation leads to a much better understanding of how things work. It is fun. I can't wait to get my 5D Mk 3 back in action when we get to Columbia, South Carolina tomorrow.
