I am working on my Boy Scout patch collection. I decided I would get back into the game because it was a lot of fun, and I have some great friends that I haven't seen in quite a while. I think the last time I participated in an event was 2005. Anyway, I spent about five days getting organized and sorting through my stuff. I have two parts of my collection. The first and most valuable is a Region 9 collection. That was an area that included Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Up until 1972 the Boy Scouts were organized into 12 regions. After that there was a lot of consolidation. The items I collect are issues from the various Order of the Arrow lodges from the original Region 9. These items I have well organized into about 30 three inch binders. This part of the collection totals about 1900 items. The rest of the collection occupies many large plastic tubs. A conservative estimate would be 10,000 items. They are certainly not highly valuable. Many of them I bought in bulk from my lodge (Colonneh, 137) as a sort of donation. After each event for which a patch was issued, they would have a bunch left over and I would buy them at a discount to help their cash flow. I have no idea how I am going to dispose of these things, but I think I am just going to have some fun trading with them.
